Holy intention

Sung in the Sanctus, this is the moment I let go and fully participate in the liturgy. The sermon preached, readings read, announcements made. There is nothing left to do but follow the familiar words. The rest of the service is in God’s hands.
When presiding, I accompany the verse by making the sign of the cross. I acknowledge Christ within and the Christ who reaches out.
In the communion liturgy, “the one” refers to Jesus, repeating the words from Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. As a child, I understood the words to mean those of us who came up for Communion were blessed.
Is it possible that “the one” is not only Jesus, but each of us? Christ within me, meets the Christ within you. As baptized people, we go into the world bearing Christ; being filled with God’s grace we come in Jesus’ name.
Begin each day with the intention of “coming in the name of the Lord.” The places we come to, the people we approach, we come, not on our own, rather bearing Christ, Christ’s peace, and healing.

Christ in us, with holiness and power set in our hearts, with the intention to live out your word: Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Amen. — KM
