Saturday August 8th, 2015 Ephesians 4:25-5:2
?and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (verse 2)
Working in the church is not my first career. I used to work in an office doing quite rewarding work. I liked my old job, and I was good at it. But one day I realized that my office job wasn’t where God wanted me to be. I had gotten more involved in church and had grown in faith. And that growth led me to a significant life change. That’s what the good news will do.
Jesus didn’t teach, heal, preach and travel all over so that our lives would always be the “same old, same old.” Jesus taught about God’s mission in the world so that our lives would be changed. And no matter what our career, our real job is always to live as disciples of Christ.
Living in love means loving others in a way that is different from the world around us. It means speaking truth, building up and sharing words of grace. It means living as though our very lives are an offering to God.
What will that offering look like for you today?
Faithful God, teach us to live as imitators of you. Show us how to change our lives into an offering for you. Amen. — JZ
