My husband and I do not always agree on what makes a “good movie,” so when he suggested that I would like Liberty Heights I hesitantly agreed to watch it. It turns out that I do like the movie.
One scene that has stayed with me is an interaction between the main character and his love interest. He has noticed that she closes her eyes during the recitation of Psalm 23 at the beginning of the school day and seems to be actually praying (the movie is set in the 1950s). The students in the movie recited Psalm 23 every day, but only the love interest seemed as if she was still moved by the words.
The scripture reading for today gives us an expanded vision of what God’s kingdom is like…and it is beautiful. In God’s kingdom there is peace, delight and wonder. It’s a reminder to me of what I am asking God to do when I pray the familiar words of the Lord’s Prayer.
Awe-inspiring God, give us a desire for your peaceful kingdom and embolden us to join you in creating peace. Amen. —
