What a beautiful promise: God’s spirit abides among us. Not visits occasionally. Not watches from afar. God abides—stays, remains, dwells with us. For the people in Haggai’s time, this assurance brought fresh courage. Though the temple they were rebuilding didn’t look as grand as before, God was measuring not by appearance but by obedience. And God’s presence was their true glory.
We, too, can be encouraged by this truth. God is not waiting for perfection before showing up. God is already with us—in our homes, our workplaces, our relationships, our efforts to serve. The Spirit strengthens, guides and fills every faithful step we take.
Think of all God has done: providing when you lacked, comforting when you were weary, surprising you with joy when you least expected it. And God’s still doing it—right now— working in ways you can’t yet see.
So take heart. What you’re building matters. Your daily acts of love and faithfulness are not small in God’s eyes. With God’s spirit abiding in you, you are never alone—and never without purpose.
Dear Lord, help us to live with confidence, knowing you are with us every step. Fill our hearts with peace, strength and joy as we follow you. Amen. —
