Canadian financial news warned of an enormous amount of wealth being transferred from one generation to the next and recommended some estate planning strategies. Therefore, my parents gave their children some advance inheritance.
When my husband and I try our best to be good stewards of our gifts, like our talents and earnings, we agonize over how to provide for our children without spoiling them, how to model service so that they will also share their gifts. Still, ultimately, we answer to God alone.
However, when we try to be managers of the advance inheritance, we also must answer to my parents. In what manner will our actions honour the best characteristics of my parents? Housing their grandchildren who are attending post-secondary institutions, hosting family and friends’ gatherings for Christian fellowship? It is not easy being a manager of generational wealth which is not meant for us, but rather for us to steward to help our children, their children, and the world.
I think I know my Master’s will, but am I following it?
Trusting God, teach me to do your will joyfully! Amen. —
