God’s hands and feet

I grew up in a Norwegian Pietistic home—chock-full of love and laughter and guidance for growing into a healthy life. Even though the guidelines/rules in this background are sometimes looked down upon, Mom and Dad had a way of making us realize how these guidelines would help us to be ‘watchful’ of our lives as we grew in our relationship with Christ. As an adult, I continue to be grateful for this early preparation for “being ready”…although I never did learn how to dance!
There are three areas in this reading that deal with becoming “dressed for action” in God’s mission—first, “Do not be afraid,” (verse 32) because God has things under control. Secondly, become servants in God’s community—give what is needed, knowing that our needs will be provided. Thirdly, be on guard for things that creep/steal into our lives…a watchfulness that keeps us looking towards Jesus so that your house is not taken away through bad decisions.
We don’t always/often see God’s mission; but we know that we are being called to be watchful, perhaps waiting, and ready to be involved, dressed for action.
