Christ is all and in all

I have become obsessed with American politics, addicted to my daily fix of news and commentary from experts who interpret historic events in real time. It may not be healthy, but it seems like a dangerous time to be uninformed, so I continue to feed the addiction. Keep in mind, I am writing before the presidential inauguration, amidst speculation about what might happen south of the border. By the time you read this, things will have changed.
Paul’s advice to the Colossians still applies. He reminds his audience, who are subjects of the Roman Empire, that they should not fret about the false lord on an earthly throne, but be subject to the Risen Lord who is over all. Our ideological divisions in politics are secondary to the spiritual truth that God’s love comes for all. It leaves no room for anger, wrath, malice, slander, abuse and lies. We’re renewed in the image of our creator. What divides us vanishes…because Christ is all and in all.

God, clothe us with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of the creator. Amen.
