Unity

I don’t know about you, but I find unity to be somewhat lacking in the Christian community today, and if I am honest, it probably always has been. It used to be common to drive into any small town and find three of four different churches. Most of those churches worked together, after all, in small towns everybody knows everybody and are most likely related. The divisiveness is most evident when churches split over hot button issues, each claiming to be more faithful to Christian truth.
So where are the gifts of God that are given to the apostles, evangelists, pastors and teachers, which are to equip us and bring us unity? Well, they are there. But sometimes we buy into the king’s diet (see yesterday’s devotion) and believe we are right, and they are wrong.
Here’s what might work. Pray for our leaders that they would heed the leading of God’s Holy Spirit, using their gifts to build up the church (universal and congregational) and make us one in Christ.

Gifting God, thank you for apostles, evangelists, pastors and teachers. Bless them in their work of equipping your saints. Amen.
