At times we go through cupboards and corners to dispose of what we no longer want or need. However, there are some things that we never want to give away nor have them taken from us.
Wisdom is presented as of utmost value, more treasured than jewels, silver or gold. Wisdom is a gift that keeps on giving. It provides peace and life itself, even long life, and is of such value that one never wants to lose it. We are encouraged to keep it, and we do that by valuing it. Wisdom grants many significant benefits to those who possess it, including life for the soul and “adornment for [the] neck.” It keeps us from stumbling in various ways.
In this age where there is much that would make us afraid, wisdom eases our fear and anxiety, enabling us to rest. The underlying antidote to such fear is that wisdom cultivates confidence in God. In wisdom, we have a strong sense that God is in charge, and we can trust in the divine in all circumstances. Wisdom even will keep our foot from being caught by that which would entrap us. Wisdom spares us such captivity so we might walk in freedom.
God of wisdom, grant us wisdom and help us to treasure this gift. Amen. —
