Sharing more

Last fall it was announced that cell phones were being banned in the classrooms in some provinces. Why? Because they were causing a distraction; students paid attention to their phones instead of the teacher.
Although the disciples did not have cell phones, they, for whatever reasons, were not yet ready to really hear and understand what Jesus was wanting to say. This happens to us as well. We also may not be ready to receive and respond to what Jesus wants to say to us at times in our lives. Jesus knew that his time was short, and he could not wait for the disciples’ readiness. Maybe it took his suffering, death and resurrection for them to begin to hear and understand.
Jesus was likely relieved to know that it did not depend solely upon him to get the message across. The Holy Spirit would continue the work of sharing the word of Christ with them after Jesus’ ascension. Jesus knew there were other things to share with the disciples, more to be revealed to them as they became ready and able to receive them. The Holy Spirit would do that work.

Thank you, Holy Spirit, for continuing to share more of Jesus’ message with us. Amen.
