Serving by faith

The Twelve were sent out to do vital work as volunteers. They were given the mandate to do the work of and proclaim the kingdom coming near: cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers and cast out demons. Yet they are sent to do it without worldly resources. They took no coins, nor precious metals, not even an extra set of clothes, shoes or a staff. It seems like poor volunteer support from the management.
It is obvious that they needed the basics of life like everyone else. The disciples went in trust of the generosity and kindness of those they encountered and those who received the benefit of their work. These followers of Jesus were to move out trusting God and others, anticipating that their hearers would respond to the good work they were providing.
In gratitude for the blessings that agents of God provide, may we also support those who come to proclaim the kingdom of God and do kingdom work among us. May we respond in generosity, proving to be worthy of their trust in us to care and respond to the work of God.

Jesus, help us to serve and trust in you and others. Amen.
