Praise the Lord

This song is an extended call for praise. Heavenly and earthly creations are called upon to praise God. I am writing this on August 31, one of those perfect late summer days: wide expanse of blue prairie sky, sunshine and a fresh and welcome northwest breeze. I am sitting on my patio, coffee cup nearby. I feel moved to express my own song of praise:
Praise the Lord this morning for:
The soft soothing call of a mourning dove.
The buzz of bees in my zinnias and cosmos.
The frantic flitting and whirring of a hummingbird at my feeder.
The sighing of a northwest breeze in a stately elm tree.
The sweet pop of a sun-ripened cherry tomato in my mouth.
The crisp bite of the first prairie magic apple from a tree.
The sight of weighed down branches of my mature mountain ash tree
waiting for the annual descent of hungry robins and cedar waxwings.
The splashing of a slate gray catbird enjoying the birdbath.
Surrounding fields of green: canola, silage, hay; and gold: wheat barley and oats.
The smell of newly cut grass.
The barking of my neighbour’s dog.
Indeed Lord, it is good to be here, surrounded by your creation
and grateful for being part of it.

May we all take time in our day to praise you. Amen.
