This is the season of the year for reconciliation in Canada…tax season. Every year at this time, we’re gathering receipts, statements, T4s, then heading to the CRA computer app, accountant or family friend to file our annual income tax. It’s a painful process, looking at our income, how much the governments have taken in taxes, the meager amount left. And after all the lines are filled, deductions calculated, some of us still have to pay more.
Thankfully, reconciliation with God isn’t complicated and doesn’t cost us any money, because Jesus’ death and resurrection paid the price for our sins. We don’t have to list and tally all our transgressions annually, either. We only need to look at God’s reconciliation form to see a huge list of our blessings, assets and forgiveness. “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (verse 21) Our requirement from God is to constantly work at reconciling with each other.
How are we doing with reconciliation?
O God, please continue to patiently direct, encourage and cajole us to be reconciled with you and each other. Amen. —
