You may ask, what is Holy Cross Day? Well, it is a day to commemorate the recovery of the Holy Cross on which Jesus was crucified. It had been taken from Jerusalem by the Persians in a war in 614 CE.
Our focus today is on the cross, for it reminds us of the salvation we all have been given through Jesus Christ and the love that God has for everyone, not just one nation, not just good people, but for all people, for the whole world. The cross represents a family of believers who come together each week to hear the word of God and to feel the love God has for us.
Each day I take a few moments to sit in my office and stare at the cross I have there, praying, reflecting, and giving thanks to God for such great love.
May you also experience this love by taking time to stop, and if you have a cross, to look at it and feel God through it.
We give you thanks, O God, for the love you have for us and the promise of eternal life with you. Amen. —
