Paul reminds us God does not change when our circumstances change. Paul also reminds us that “All things work together for good…” (Romans 8:28)
In my life, I have lots of fond memories. Getting married, the birth of our children, attending their weddings, and later, the birth and the baptizing of our grandchildren.
I have also had a few setbacks over the years. The illnesses and death of my parents and family members, as well as my own illnesses have weighed heavily on me. One of the times I remember being most disappointed was realizing I was still single at age 30.
I remember turning to my parents and telling them I was sorry that at age 30 I was still not married and potentially unable to carry on the family name.
My parents often reminded me that the most important thing in life, no matter our circumstances, was not who I was but whose I was. As a follower of Jesus, I am a member of God’s family and no matter what may come my way, I will always be loved and forgiven.
Lord, help me hold onto and trust in your promise that all things will work for good, despite any obstacles we face. Amen. —
