I have often thought about what it might be like to be reunited with my parents, relatives and loved ones in heaven. Not that I want to do something silly and jump in front of a bus and say, “Take me!”
The day my dad died he appeared to be looking beyond me. He was talking to me, but he had a far distant presence about himself. We were able to communicate about our appreciation for each other. Maybe God was giving him a glimpse of what lay before him.
In today’s Bible passage, Moses knew that he was about to die. Moses felt the need to communicate and remind the Israelites of what happened to him so that they might pay close attention to God’s direction.
In the busyness of our lives, we need to heed Moses’ warning so that we might pay close attention to God’s direction and slow down and maybe smell the roses. Have we been still today for even five minutes to let God speak to us or does God get a busy signal?
My prayer today would be that we all focus and keep our eyes on the baby of Bethlehem.
Lord, thank you for your sacrificial death and the life it brings. Give us a glimpse of your kingdom. Amen. —
