Faith and knowledge

Are you a student or a teacher? Each one of us can be one, or the other, or both.
Paul writes to the church in Ephesus and points out that Christ calls for teachers and points to their work as necessary. Every teacher needs students.
The type of teaching Paul is referring to is far beyond what we see now. In the time it was written, finding a teacher and becoming their student was a commitment to not only learn all the teacher knew, but to be exactly like the teacher in every way. For a person to be worthy of the title of teacher (Rabbouni), meant years of being a studious student themselves first.
We are all called to share the gospel, but some of us will be called to become teachers. To do either, we must first know the gospel, become students again and find a good teacher to follow. Paul clearly shares with us that knowledge of God’s Word is the foundation to all things, including unity in the Church. Will you answer the call to become a student of the Word and of Jesus?

Jesus, thank you for the example you left while on earth. Help me to follow your example each day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
