Love and mercy

I have always been inspired by David. He was a man after God’s own heart, but he was also very human. Even after committing a sin worthy of death, according to the Law of Moses, God’s mercy and love shine through.
David’s plea to God through this psalm shows his humility and repentance. God’s chosen king for the Israelites made a very public mistake, yet because David was open to correction, God met him with mercy. David clearly accepted and acknowledged his wrongdoing, no blaming. I wonder if this willingness to accept failure was why God chose David to be king.
Are you brave like David? Can you admit when you have made a mistake, either large or small? Admitting wrong and openly repenting is something I struggle with. I find it hard to even accept my mistakes. When I struggle, I need to remember that my mistakes will never, EVER change God’s love and mercy for me. David is a good reminder of that. When he repented, God restored his salvation, which brought joy to David. God freely forgave David his errors after he repented. I know God is always waiting to restore my joy, too.

God, help me to see my errors and help me humbly to bring them to you in repentance. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
