Covering up or owning up?

Have you ever tried to avoid taking responsibility for something you’ve done, or something you’ve left undone, and ended up making it a lot worse?
That’s precisely what King David tried to do. He saw a beautiful woman, another man’s wife, and slept with her. When she got pregnant, he tried to cover it up by making it look like the husband was the father. And when the plan backfired, King David had the husband killed. In trying to cover up a rape, King David ended up guilty of murder as well.
What would have happened if David had just owned up to his error? What if he had confessed what happened to Uriah? Uriah might have been angry, but at least he would have been alive. We will never know, but maybe we can learn a lesson from David.
We ask God to forgive, and we know God does. If we ask others to forgive, maybe they will, too.

Forgiving God, gives us courage to own up when we do wrong and seek forgiveness from others when we need it. Amen.
