Good grief

Paul is writing to the church in Corinth. In a previous letter, he tried to help them with their relationship problems with each other and with God. There was idol worship, immoral behaviour and arguing going on. They were not looking after the poor and supporting the weak in faith. How could they love and worship God if they were unable to love and support each other and respect the various talents and abilities of their brothers and sisters in Christ? Paul gave them some advice and then he distanced himself. The Corinthians worked on it, but some problems remained so they called on Paul again to visit and help. Paul was proud of their progress.
God loves us and knows we are trying. God knows that what happens in the world affects the Church and God’s people. This became abundantly clear during COVID. Many congregations suffered; some survived, some did not. Many found new ways to be the church in a changed world.
Paul sent letters of encouragement along with Titus to help the Corinthians. He regretted scolding them but was happy with their efforts.

Dear God, help us each to do our part as we live out our faith in a changing world. Amen.
