Gray Bay is a beautiful area with campsites and a long picturesque beach. It is only a short 22 km drive from Sandspit where I live. Many locals and tourists enjoy Gray Bay. But there was a serious problem. The road to take is a logging road. Last year, it was so full of potholes that it was almost unusable even for trucks! With a top speed of 20 km per hour, the manifold came loose from my truck engine. Fortunately, a local person formed a committee to obtain permission and funding to have the road graded. The road now feels like a highway. Travel time to Gray Bay is cut in half. And everyone has access without fear of damage to their vehicle.
Isaiah proclaims to the people that the potholes and large sharp stones slowing God’s arrival will be removed. God is coming to free the captives from Babylon. Sometimes, the potholes and large sharp stones on our life’s road are an impediment to God coming to free us to enjoy the new life granted through Jesus. Advent is a good time to repair the road for God to come and free us to enjoy the wonders of God’s grace.
Loving God, prepare the way and come to us. Amen. — JW
