"He has raised up a mighty savior for us in the house of his servant David, as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, that we would be saved from our enemies?" (verses 69-71)
Holding each of my children in the moments after their birth was a time of wonder. “Who will this child be? What kind of person will they be? What will they do?” I never had the clarity Zechariah did, who proclaimed to all that their son John would be a prophet who would go before the Lord to prepare his ways.
Zechariah’s proclamation comes on the heels of his neighbours’ question, “What then will this child become?” It is an important question for each of us to consider about ourselves. What have we become so far? What will we yet become? Saved from our enemies to serve God without fear requires that our gifts be used in loving service of God and our neighbour. If your gift is to sit with a sick or dying person, then do so tenderly. If your gift is teaching, then do so wisely. If your gift is patience or kindness, please model it for others. Become the best God has created you to be!
Help me discover the gifts you have blessed me with that I might serve you and my neighbour. Amen. — LG
