Thursday November 14th, 2019 Isaiah 65:17-25
For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth? (verse 17)
In the dreary world in which we live, not the least revealed in the grey November days, it can all seem so dark and hopeless. Daylight is getting shorter and shorter. Turn on TV news or read newspapers and it appears that we always are in the midst of doom and gloom. Where will it all end? Will this ever change to something brighter?
The prophet Isaiah in this reading offers us a glimpse of hope in the beautiful poetic vision of God’s new heavens and new earth, where the past things will be no more. The doom and gloom is coming to an end and “the wolf and the lamb shall feed together.” (verse 25) Isn’t that a picture of hope to rejoice over? A picture to pull us out of the doldrums of life. I would most certainly think so.
The new creation that is promised will be something to look forward to. Looking forward to in hope and with excited anticipation, which is something over which we can all rejoice.
What are some of the things you look forward to this day?
Lord God, we give you thanks for all the blessings we have received. We praise you, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. — JKU
