Who are you?

It is so easy to question what is happening in our lives, especially when things are not going too well. Why did we have to go through this kind of life? Why did this happen to me? Why did he have to die so young? Why was God not looking after me? These are but some of the questions we ask ourselves.

The funny thing is that we seldom do that kind of questioning when things are going well. No one asks, why did I have this fortune instead of my next door neighbour? Instead we tend to feel that we are specially blessed when good things happen in our lives.

But questioning when things are going well is just what Jesus is facing. People have seen him do miracles. The chief priests and scribes are wondering by what authority Jesus did these things.

By what authority? We know by what authority Jesus did the teaching, preaching and healing he did. So why do we tend to question Jesus when things are not going the way we want things to go?

What are some of the ways you understand Jesus’ authority in your life today?

Lord God, help us always know Jesus' authority to do your will. Amen. — JKU
