Ready

Taking time off is rare for me. One particular day, a friend and I were out for a sailing trip, a chance to totally unwind and let go for a few hours. Stretched out on the boat, I was enjoying the sun, the view and the relaxation. The skipper, someone I had never met, was friendly and enjoyed talking with us. I would have preferred the trip with more quiet but entertained the conversation. Deeper into conversation, he admitted something he had been wrestling with in his personal life. I found myself knee-deep in important support, and offering spiritual compassion and encouragement. At the end of our trip, he said, “I bet you didn’t expect to wake up this morning and make a difference in somebody’s life.” My automatic response was, “I wake up every day expecting to make a difference in somebody’s life.”

Living our faith is an active responsibility. It means being ready when God needs us, regardless of our plans. It means being open and ready to share the gifts God has blessed us with because God is with us in all we do and say at all times.

Thank you, God, for being active in us so we can be active in the world. Amen. — KNM
