The vision

We moved into a development that was designed with a vision, and in order to achieve it, builders had to follow its architectural guidelines and homeowners, the landscaping guidelines. These guidelines were meant to create a neighbourhood with unique homes, while giving an overall common feel. If truth be told, when we first began the negotiation to buy the house that we were interested in, we were unaware of the extent of the guidelines. By the time we moved in, not only did we fully understand them, we embraced them. Granted, we didn’t see that we had a choice as they had been clearly laid out during the legal process.

When we built our backyard fence, we did so with the guidelines in mind. Our landscaping, on the other hand, remains a work in progress. However, we strive to ensure that we are following the rules as we complete it. Yes, in many ways it ends up being another layer of oversight of how we live as individuals and community, but it’s a choice, and we are very happy with the choice that we made. If you choose to live in the development, you have to follow the vision laid out.

In today’s reading, the psalmist extolls the power of the Lord’s commandments, of living in God’s vision.

Be with me, Lord, as I embrace your vision. Amen. — DR
