Monday September 30th, 2019 Proverbs 22:2-16
The rich and the poor have this in common: the LORD is the maker of them all. (verse 2)
Sometimes, it seems we live in a world where money and status are everything. We are told by many media sources and celebrities that we must have a new this and a new that. We are encouraged to constantly upgrade what we have to the newest and best. Lotteries are flourishing as they hold out the promise of being rich, even though the odds are infinitesimal. Becoming rich is the goal for many.
The gap between rich and poor seems to be getting bigger, both on a local and a world scale. We perceive a huge difference between being rich and being poor.
In our world, money means so much. But in God’s world, it means nothing. We are all God’s children, loved, wanted and equal.
As we draw near to Thanksgiving, let us take time today to be thankful for what we have, while remembering that everything is God’s gift. When we come before God, the money we have and the things we own do not matter.
Generous and loving God, help us to be rich in spirit and content with what we have. Help us to share our abundance with your other children. Amen. — DC
