When Persistence Pays Off

As the mom of a toddler, I spend my fair share of time searching for lost items: socks, shoes, toys. The list is never-ending. By the time one item is found, others have gone missing. Most reappear in a timely manner, except for that one item that continued to evade me.

Perhaps you know that classic baby toy. The one with a tower fitted onto a rocking base and five coloured rings of different sizes that stack on top. I can’t say when exactly, but at some point the top ring went missing. Three times, over the course of a year, I scoured the house from top to bottom. Certain I had checked everywhere, I resigned myself to the fact it was gone. Probably put in the garbage at some point by my independent and ever-helpful son.

And then one evening, out of the blue, I realized I’d never looked under the pantry cupboard. I wasn’t even sure there was enough space for it to fit there, but I decided to take a look. There it was! A whole year of frustrations melted away as I joyfully stacked the final ring on that toy. The lost had been found!

Loving God, you persistently and unceasingly search out those in need of your love. Help me to do the same. Amen. — LS
