What wrong did your ancestors find in me that they went far from me, and went after worthless things, and became worthless themselves? (verse 5)
So often we turn from God and think the grass will be greener on the other side of the fence. Turning away from God has never done me any good. Not once. Not ever. I am sure we have all had the experience of letting go of a parent’s hand in a department store, wandering off to look at some shiny toy or game, and turning around to find no one beside us. Our parent isn’t there watching us and looking out for us. Panic begins to set in. Where is Mom or Dad? No one will ever find me.
But our parent or caregiver seeks us out until we are found. What did we think we would find, where did we think we were going? God never let down God’s people, throughout the entirety of scripture. God keeps seeking out the lost and bringing them back into God’s loving embrace with endless mercy and grace. Like any parent, there is the inevitable, “What were you thinking?” Then comes the tight, secure and solid hug that tells us we are back in the safe place once again.
Loving God, help us to remember that there is no safe place but with you. Amen. — LAC
