Don’t hold back now!

As we talked about yesterday, our body is a temple of worship for God. Today we hear our being is an integral part of the whole body of Christ. God’s plans for us and for our universe cannot, will not be accomplished without the active participation of our whole selves, working together in harmony under God’s guidance.

I think the greater gifts are all of the gifts that we use to the best of our abilities as often as we are given opportunities. My dad used to say, “If you’re going to do a job, do it well, or don’t bother to do it at all.” Half-hearted efforts deemed to be good enough are disappointing and disrespectful. God calls us to go full out in doing God’s work, full out with joy and energy and compassion. It’s not always easy, but it is always rewarding. Holding back is not an option.

Generous God, you have gifted each one of us according to your purposes. Give us all the courage we need to use these gifts wisely and generously to do your work in our world. Amen. — SB
