Spring cleaning time

Who would have guessed Jesus was into spring cleaning? He took time from his important work-teaching God’s holy word-to clean the house of God.

Hmm. We clean our homes, yards, cars even more often than once in the spring. But, what about our heads? Hearts? Spirits? The Bible says our bodies are God’s holy temple, that is, houses of prayer, holy spaces.

What about those negative thoughts we have about political affairs? What about those acidic feelings we harbour about a loved one who betrayed us? What about the despair we feel about all the gratuitous violence we see all over our precious world?

Our inner spring cleaning can, and needs to happen all days in all seasons, in a spirit of grace, enthusiasm and persistence. Praying and purging can bring us and our world into God’s peace.

Hmm. It’s time I got started on mine.

Holy God, you created me to be a temple of worship for you. Open my eyes to see the accumulation of sin in the corners of my heart and mind so there is lots of room for you to be there. Amen. — SB
