Monday August 12th, 2019 Isaiah 61:7-11
? all who see them shall acknowledge that they are a people whom the LORD has blessed. (verse 9)
For so many of us, life can be filled with unexpected heartache, financial woes and uncertain futures. Sometimes, we are hit with one disaster after another that make us wonder what path we need to take to find a light at the end of this dark time in our lives.
Isaiah is filled with joy to tell Israel they have that light after the darkness. He announces a year of abundance, a time of hope and rebuilding for their future. He promises that God will bless the Israelites in all areas of their lives. Isaiah spoke to the people of his time, but also foretold abundant blessings for the future for God’s people.
His prophecy gives us the hope of a brighter future. Jesus fulfilled this prophecy and paid the debts of humanity. He blessed us with God’s unending grace. Does this mean we will never see heartache or trouble in our lives? Of course not, but we can count on God to guide and comfort us during the difficult times. Because of Jesus, God’s Son and promise to us, we always have his light, which shines for us in our dark times, a steady light leading us to a brighter future.
God of grace, help us to focus on your blessings and light as we walk the path through this life. Amen. — NK
