Saturday August 10th, 2019 Hebrews 11:1-3,8-16
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to set out for a place that he was to receive as an inheritance; and he set out, not knowing where he was going. (verse 8)
As Christians, we all say that we have faith. One definition I read says that faith comprehends what cannot be felt by the physical senses. But how do we react when our claims of faith are tested?
A few years ago, we sold our house in a tough market. We not only had to have faith that we would find a buyer, but also that we would find a new place to live that was within our means. It wasn’t easy to believe it would all work out, and I cannot even fathom being called to do what Abraham did and leave family, friends and home behind, with no clear idea of what the final destination would be.
Verse 13 points out that all of the people praised for their faith in this passage die without having received the promise. Just think about that for a moment: when our lives come to an end, will our faith be as strong then, even if God’s promises seem no closer than they did before?
These are tough questions, but we worship a God who understands and welcomes questions.
Dear Lord, help my faith to grow. I want to believe. Amen. — DLG
