Brave and bold

One of the greatest fears that we face as humans is the fear of public speaking. Ask the average person to get up and give a five-minute presentation, and they would probably rather be asked to step into a lion’s den! The idea of standing in front of a group and expressing ideas, even ones which he or she could discuss at length over a hot cup of coffee, becomes a terrifying prospect when the speaker is required to stand up and speak alone.

Despite this fact, Mary Magdalene stands up bravely and boldly says, “I have seen the Lord,” to the disciples who were probably unused to hearing a woman’s voice speak with such authority. How did Mary get the courage to speak her truth?

Mary likely had been asked by Jesus to step outside her comfort zone and speak. He did not outline how, he just told her to go and share the good news. When Jesus asks you to speak, how will you answer?

Dear Lord Jesus, when you choose us to speak, help us to bravely step forward and boldly speak your truth. Amen. — CS
