"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life." (verse 16)
This past year, I became a godmother to a beautiful baby named Caroline. She is such a joy and makes me smile every time I see her. Caroline is blessed to have three godmothers and one godfather. How wonderful to have so many people willing to be a part of this child’s life!
As godparents, we promise to nurture Caroline and support her as she begins her own faith journey. Through her baptism, we are reminded of our own baptism and affirm that we believe in God and God’s Son, Jesus Christ.
What a comfort to know that God so loved the world that he gave his only Son so that we may not perish but have eternal life. We must not take this for granted. Our lives must show that we understand how much God loves us. A true blessing indeed!
Whether we are newly baptized like Caroline, a young adult or recently retired, we are all children of God. We may falter from time to time, but through forgiveness, God is always there to pick us up and carry us.
Loving God, may we turn from evil ways and come into the light that is your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen. — JR
