Doing good to all

Weekly in his sermons, our pastor reminds us that we are to go out and take the word of God to all of those around us. This would be hard to do if we didn’t daily pray for God’s help to take God’s word into the community.

I spend at least three hours a day on the telephone. These calls can come from friends who need someone to listen to them, or they can come from strangers who have heard that I am willing to listen to them. Listening is not hard to do as long as I remember that I am the voice of the Lord in the wilderness. These calls can be as simple as what a beloved grandchild has done the day before or as complicated as how to deal with an abusive spouse. These calls can include the need for me to remind the person to pray or the individual reminding me that God acts in mysterious ways.

I thank God daily to be able to do this listening.

Gracious and loving God, I pray that you give me patience to listen to these phone calls and pass on your word to those who call. Amen. — EEMS
