A few years ago, I was returning from a family reunion and realized that I was very ill. I was driving across country, and no one else could drive my car since my car has a standard transmission. It took me almost two days to drive what I would normally have done in 24 hours. I arrived home about 11:00 at night. The next morning, I went into the doctor’s office and insisted that I see my doctor. Within 24 hours, I was not only admitted to hospital but had emergency surgery. I slowly recovered and, after 15 days, was discharged from the hospital and sent home. I realized when I got home that all the time I was awake in hospital I was praying for my recovery and that those prayers were answered by our Lord. I also realized that God answers prayer in God’s way and that my answer could have been death as that is also God’s healing.
I have always liked this psalm, but being reminded to pray when you need healing was a very important message.
Gracious and loving God, I thank you that we are reminded to call on you for help when we are ill and that you heal us. Amen. — EEMS
