Daddy

I enjoy strength training and weightlifting. It keeps me healthy, strong, motivated and sore. I have most of the equipment that I require in my basement. This is where I can be found most days around 4 p.m. My children know this. They know that I can be found there when they need a snack or a bandage or just to tell me their sibling started it. It doesn’t matter how much weight I’m lifting, they’ll interrupt whenever they want: “Daddy! Daddy!”

When we cry out to our God, “Abba! Father! Daddy! Mommy!” like a weightlifter mid set, God hears our cries. God is busy, but not too busy to listen. God knows our voice. God knows our sighs. God knows our groans. God searches our hearts. God’s Spirit is with us when we call out to God, and indeed intercedes in accordance with God’s will.

Even greater than a loving parent, our God knows what we need. Sometimes, it is our hunger satisfied. Sometimes, we have wounds to heal. Sometimes, we need reconciliation. Trust that when you call out to God, you are heard.

Thank you, O God, that you hear me when I pray. As I hope for what I do not see, give me grace to wait for it with patience, trusting that you will respond always according to your will. Amen. — ANS
