?the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. (verse 22-23)
Have you ever thought of the church as the fullness of God or of Jesus Christ? That would mean that the church is full of love (if God is love), full of light (if God is light), and full of the Holy Spirit (if God is Spirit). In fact, that would mean that the people who are the church would also be full of love, and light, and the Holy Spirit.
Those who have been part of the church for a while might object that sometimes this is not the case. After all, the church is made up of sinful human beings who don’t always pay attention to what the Spirit is saying to the church. However, the key to seeing the fullness of God in the church is seeing “the immeasurable greatness” of God’s power for those who believe. (verse 19)
It is God who has the power to fill us with the Holy Spirit. It is God who can bring light into darkness and life where there was death. It is God who reveals God’s love to us and who fills our hearts with that same love. While it may sound unlikely to some, it is entirely possible when Jesus is the one in charge-the head of his body, the church.
Loving God, you bring life in all its fullness to those who trust in Jesus. Thank you! Amen. — LLH
