This is a good day!

The funeral of an elderly former pastor of a church attracted the participation of a number of members who had not been coming to church for a long time, perhaps as long as a couple of decades. It was a sad day, but also a day of thanksgiving. There were lots of delighted greetings and warm hugs as folks met again after so long a time. Their hearts were rejoicing as they received a warm welcome back home, no questions asked, no judgments passed and no snippy comments made.

An observation was made that this felt like the elderly pastor was still working in ministry, as love and forgiveness, new beginnings and unity filled the whole church. It truly was a celebration of life and ministry. One participant shared through her tears, “This is a good day!”

Loving God, you call us to live in community with each other. May we value and work towards unity amongst all your children for that is the most powerful witness we can offer to the world about your love and peace. Amen. — ES
