A conversation that happens almost every year at the Golden Retreat revolves around how we can get more people in attendance. Those who do participate have wonderful things to say about it, using such phrases as “It is a break I really need every year,” or “I go home from there refreshed and rejuvenated.” Who wouldn’t want to come? And so, each year, we leave determined to spread this good news and do find people who show a great deal of interest, but too often do not show the next year.
Does this sound familiar? We tell people the good news we have to share, interest is shown, and then nothing happens. Unfortunately, this can lead to discouragement on our part, even to the point where we just give up trying. In our lesson today, the prophet Isaiah reminds us that such things do happen in life, that we may be rejected (even politely), but we are to remember that God is our strength, who gives us the courage to continue onward. Continue sharing the good news, knowing that you are not to blame for any failures. This, after all, is not our mission; it is God’s.
Lord, when I'm discouraged with how well I'm doing with spreading your word of love and hope, give me the strength to continue onward. Amen. — LGR
