"Today I have rolled away from you the disgrace of Egypt." (verse 9)
We all know that feeling of coming home from a long trip or even just an overscheduled day of appointments or work; that feeling of relief and joy to sink into the familiar comforts of your own bed or favourite chair.
For the Israelites, home has become a distant memory. They have been wandering for 39 years. The predictability of home and the ability to celebrate familiar customs and habits is gone. But not forever. “Today I have rolled away from you the disgrace of Egypt.” (Joshua 5:9) Today you have come home.
The next time the pain and pressures of life leave you feeling powerless and disgraced, remember this promise: Our Lord will roll it all away and let you come home. In God’s grace, we find acceptance and comfort. Today, you can eat at home and relax.
Dear Lord, thank you for rolling away all the disgrace of our days. In you we can find rest and comfort and peace. Amen. — VB
