A simple space can make all the difference. One little press of the space bar turns the phrase “God is nowhere” to “God is now here.” It is hump day, we are halfway through the week and over halfway through Lent. Now is the perfect time to take a little space and change our perspective.
Hope is not the conviction that things will turn out well, but the certainty that God is with us regardless of how things turn out. In our busy lives, it can be so easy to feel as if God is simply nowhere. Daily pressures and stresses seem to come at us from all directions. Those are the days we need to take a little space. Take a deep breath and take some time for prayer. One little space can change a day from feeling like God is nowhere to God is now here.
The promise given in our reading from Isaiah is like that little press of the space bar. It gives us an infusion of hope and changes our perspective. It changes the desperation of the moment from a feeling that God is nowhere to an assurance that God is now here! Immanuel means God with us.
Dear Lord, help us to take a little space and feel the beauty of your promise that God is now here and with us in our daily lives and our stress. Amen. — VB
