Our Refuge

The above verse is of great comfort when we encounter those “times of trouble.” I have often pondered as to just how those going through difficult times are able to cope if they do not believe in the presence of God in their lives. I cannot comprehend a life without faith and hope.

When problems arise, I can turn to God, not always for the answers I want, but for comfort and reassurance. Family and friends give us those things as well. They care and pray for us, but are limited in their capabilities. Ultimately, God is the creator of each of us and of everything in our lives. The Bible invites us to believe and provides numerous examples of how God provides and cares for us; God deeply loves us.

What we have to do is have unwavering faith and trust. That is not always easy or even possible, but in a recent health crisis, I was somehow able, at times, to put the situation completely in God’s hands. I felt God with me each step of the way and experienced a great peace. What a joyous feeling in the midst of troubles!

God of peace, thank you for being with me in times of trouble. Remind me that you are always there for me. Amen. — KB
