Thursday February 14th, 2019 Jeremiah 17:5-10
Blessed are those who trust in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream. It shall not fear when heat comes? (verses 7-8)
In July of 2017, my husband and I travelled to beautiful Ashcroft, located in the breathtaking Okanagan Desert in British Columbia, the only desert in Canada. Perhaps because we were there during the intense Elephant Hill Fire, we were especially aware of the importance of water to sustain life and mitigate the threat of death. All around, plants and people were desperate for adequate supplies of water.
There is a unique beauty to sagebrush, yellow grasses and desert blossoms. However, it is apparent that survival is totally dependent on water supply.
The psalmist assures us that when we place our trust in God, we need never fear the droughts of this life. We are promised adequate supplies of life-giving water to keep us steady and strong through any storms. We will be like robust trees, flourishing beside a stream, whose roots drink deeply of the seemingly endless supply of water.
Our God is a never-ending source of “water”-of life-giving strength and power. We rest secure in God’s care and never-ending supply of whatever we need.
Father, today help me rest in the certainty of your care for me. Amen. — KGT
