Friday February 8th, 2019 Psalm 138
I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart? (verse 1)
This psalm took me back to my childhood on the farm. It was a hot summer day, and I was somewhere around the age of seven or eight. I remember flying out the back door, not bothering to use the two steps to the ground, spreading my arms as wide as they would go, looking up to the sky and shouting at the top of my lungs, “GOD, I LOVE YOU!” This psalm makes me say, “God, I love you.” I love you because you answer prayers. I love you because you take notice of someone as insignificant as me. I love you because you are with me, no matter what.
It has been some 60 or so years since that day, and I still don’t know why it was that I shouted those words. But I do know this: God continues to amaze me. I praise God for using people like you and me to care about and reach out to those that the world would push aside. I thank God for not abandoning us “in the midst of trouble.” (verse 7) I continue to be astounded at the ways that God guides, supports and protects us, all the while promising to be with us to the very end.
God, we love you! Amen. — VSR
