I wonder how old Jeremiah was when God called him. 4? 12? 18? In his own mind, Jeremiah is too young to be considered by God. But it is no fluke Jeremiah is chosen, for God knew him before God formed him in his mother’s womb. He was appointed by God to be a prophet even before being born. Before he can take his first steps, God has purpose for Jeremiah.
Jeremiah says, “I am only a boy.” That’s not a problem for God. Sarai and Hannah are barren. That’s not a problem for God. Moses has concerns over a speech impediment. That’s not a problem for God.
Whatever it is that you see as your limitation, be it age or gender or strength or ability, or simply not being good enough, may you trust and believe that it is not a limitation for God. God has a history of calling unlikely people to join in God’s work. God knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb. So where might God be calling you?
Thank you, O God, that you give my life and the lives of all believers meaning. Thank you for giving me your gifts. Help me to trust in your work in me and join that to which you are calling me. Amen. — ANS
