Thursday January 10th, 2019 Isaiah 43:1-7
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. (verse 1)
There can be no lonelier and helpless feeling than not being chosen. As someone lacking in athletic skills, I always dreaded the part of Phys. Ed. when the team captains would take turns choosing teams. In today’s more inclusive school systems, I don’t think this happens anymore, but I can still remember the sting of always being last choice.
There are still many ways that people can feel left out. Perhaps they don’t have a partner with whom to face life’s challenges, they didn’t get a job they wanted, or they long for the security of a loving family. Life has plenty of ups and downs, and it’s no fun to face them alone.
Thankfully, God’s word promises us that God chooses us. We have already been chosen to be part of the great, eternal team, and God will gather us under Jesus’ rule.
When we are part of God’s team, we never have to face challenges alone. God has chosen us for the team and is with us always, and through Jesus Christ, we will meet our ultimate goal.
Lord, open my eyes to the unchosen and give me your grace to welcome them and let them know that you choose them, too. Amen. — DLG
