One Big Happy Family

These days it’s hard to believe that God’s plan to have a united family of believers on earth is ever going to happen. There are reports of school shootings almost daily, seniors and others are being swindled out of hard-earned money by seasoned scam artists, individuals are fighting their own battles of anxiety and stress and, in general, there is a climate of distrust everywhere. If it were up to us, we might very well decide that most people aren’t worth saving.

Thankfully, it isn’t up to us, because none of us are worth saving on our own merits. It’s these times when the world seems about to self-destruct under all the pressure, that we need to take time to remember that God is God, who offers salvation to all through Jesus Christ, and that God’s plan to bring unity between all things in heaven and on earth is still very much in play.

As we struggle through today’s troubles, we can remind ourselves and each other to trust that God has known the end from the beginning and look forward to being a true family of believers.

Lord, help me look at those around me as family, not enemies, and know that your plan for world unity will succeed. Amen — DLG
