Wednesday December 19th, 2018 Acts 28:23-31
You will indeed listen, but never understand, and you will indeed look, but never perceive. (verse 26)
Have you ever looked at a Magic Eye picture? It’s one of those funky pictures that just looks like a clustered pattern of lines and shapes at first glance. When you look at it more closely, however, at just the right angle and distance, your eyes see more than the lines and shapes. A beautiful picture appears!
Seeing the movements of God in our lives is like looking at one of those pictures. Sometimes we can easily see past the complex details of our circumstances and spot God’s beauty without too much effort. These are seasons of excitement and purpose. Other times, all we see is confusion. We do our best to look for God, but we just can’t see God even when God is right in front of us. How easy it is to become frustrated and discouraged.
Whatever season you are in, we can hold fast to the promise that God is Emmanuel-God with us. We can keep our eyes open and our spirits in tune with God’s movements. God is with us as we sort through the intricate details, and God is also with us as we marvel at the big, beautiful picture of our lives.
Jesus, would you open our eyes? Help us to see you today. Amen. — JL
